It is a finely made knife, but it doesn't have the amazing hollow grind of the traditionally made Sodbuster Jr; which for me, is the knife's largest downfall. If I knew that before buying, I may have not picked this up; but I'm glad I did. I do recommend purchasing it if the flat grind doesn't put you off. If you are hesitant, please read my thoughts below:
PROS:
-Cost. For $54 from Adept Knives after using their very generous 20% off code, this is a sweet deal.
-The micarta covers are very nice. Grippy, comfortable, and have no voids.
-The covers have a slope that allows a nice pinch grip
-Clean on the inside
-All blade play can be tuned out!
-Nice walk n' talk
-There are minimal gaps between the spring and covers
-0.015" at the thinnest and .032" at the tip behind the edge
-My singular sample size tested at 60HRC. Crucible (RIP) recommends S35VN between 58-61 HRC.
-Long screws with fine threads are less likely to back out
-I like the opening hole, and may prefer it over the traditional model's nail nick
-This is a much better lockless "work knife" than the traditional Sodbuster Jr. Grippier, no blade play, easy(er) to open with gloves, and more steel in the midsection to resist snapping.
CONS:
-Flat ground blade doesn't cut as well as the traditional hollow grind.
-The tip does not come to a point. This combined with the blade's belly makes it pathetic at piercing. I'm probably going to turn the blade into a spearpoint.
-Blade is nearly rubbing the G10 liner, and no combo of adjusting screws will get the blade centered.
-Unusable edge out of the box
-T6 screws
-Pivot barrel and pins are held in place by a T6 screw on either side. A three screw assembly would be better
-No Loctite on screws
